Vivek Ramaswamy, co-chair of President-elect Trump’s "Department of Government Efficiency" (DOGE), plans to run for Ohio governor in 2026, after achieving key accomplishments at DOGE. His gubernatorial bid will follow the expected announcement of Lt. Gov. Jon Husted filling the Senate seat vacated by Vice President-elect JD Vance.
Vivek Ramaswamy, co-chair of President-elect Trump’s "Department of Government Efficiency" (DOGE), plans to run for governor of Ohio in 2026.
The Ohio governor’s mansion will be open for election in 2026, as current Gov. Mike DeWine is term-limited.
Ramaswamy intends to first focus on achieving accomplishments at DOGE before formally announcing his gubernatorial bid.
His plan is to announce his candidacy after Gov. DeWine names a successor to the Senate seat vacated by Vice President-elect JD Vance.
Ramaswamy was considered for the Senate seat, but DeWine is expected to appoint Lt. Gov. Jon Husted instead.
Ramaswamy is a biotech entrepreneur, former White House contender, and ally of President-elect Trump.
Even as a 2024 Republican presidential challenger, Ramaswamy has called Trump "the best president of the 21st century."
Trump appointed Ramaswamy and Elon Musk to lead DOGE, an advisory group focused on cutting federal spending.
DOGE’s work is expected to conclude by mid-2026, aligning with Ramaswamy’s potential gubernatorial run.
A source close to Ramaswamy stated his run would follow successes in DOGE’s work for the president and the American people.
